Swimming

In all grades, the following will apply:
a. Boys are required to attend at least six practical sessions of am hours duration (or 12 half-hour sessions) during which instruction will be given and practice carried out.
b. The standards shown are minimum ones. In many cases a higher standard can be reached.
c. There must be a clear indication of improvement over the period of training so that any Boy able to meet the required standards at the start of a course can be set higher standards to be achieved during the following weeks.
Grade 1
This credit may be awarded to those who can swim at least 25 metres freestyle and climb out of the pool unaided.
Grade 2
Awarded to Boys who achieve the following:
1. Enter the water by a dive, swim 100m continuous freestyle and climb out of the pool unaided.
2. And achieve any 2 of the following standards:
Swim 50m crawl in 42 seconds.
Swim 50m breaststroke in 45 seconds.
Swim 50m backstroke in 60 seconds.
Grade 3
Awarded to Boys who hold Grade II and achieve the following:
1. Enter the water by a dive, swim 200m continuous freestyle and climb out of the pool unaided.
2. And achieve any 2 of the following standards:
Swim 50m crawl in 37 seconds.
Swim 50m breaststroke in 40 seconds.
Swim 50m backstroke in 55 seconds.
