| Here
we can see how the regulations changes for this from 1983-1993. |
| In 1983 |
This is Scripture Knowledge seen as a basis to the development of
Christian living. This may be done in one of three ways: |
1. |
Follow a syllabus prescribed by the Chaplain. |
2. |
Follow a syllabus based on a Bible Class Handbook, or Church Syllabus. |
3. |
Follow a Syllabus prepared by The Boys' Brigade. |
It is strongly recommended that Companies should hold special courses
other than a Bible Class for these Awards. |
| Grade 1 - Bronze |
Awarded to Boys who have satisfactorily been involved in a course approved
by the Company Chaplain and who qualify by having shown an understanding
of particular passages of scripture included in the course, and the
application of those passages to everyday life. |
| Grade 2 - Silver |
Awarded to Boys who hold the Grade 1 Award, gained in a previous session,
and who have satisfactorily been involved in a course approved by the
Company Chaplain and who qualify by having shown an understanding of
particular passages of scripture included in the course, and the
application of those passages to everyday life. |
| Grade 3 - Gold |
Awarded to Boys who hold the Grade 3 Award, gained in a previous session,
and who have satisfactorily been involved in a course approved by the
Company Chaplain and who qualify by having shown an understanding of
particular passages of scripture included in the course, and the
application of those passages to everyday life. |
| Assessment |
Although the testing may be by examination, it is strongly recommended
that a variety of testing methods be used. The following suggested methods
are given and may be adopted, bearing in mind the form of the course and
nature of assessment most appropriate to the individuals in the group:
1. |
Oral Test (individual or group) |
2. |
Written (graded) answers will help to maintain interest
(eg not every
question should call for a full composition answer. Some may have a
one-word answer, others a multiple-choice of answers. |
| (Regulations as at
1983) |
| In 1993 |
| Boys are required to participate in a programme of Christian Education,
this should meet the requirements of the general award programme (minimum
of six sessions each of 30 minutes) and be
progressive across the three Grades. The scheme should bring together
three elements: |
a. |
formal presentation of scripture passages and consideration of the 'key
points'. |
b. |
discussion on their modern relevance. |
c. |
interpretation in the modern day
situation. |
| It is strongly advised that the programme be devised in conjunction
with the Company Chaplain. |
| Subject to the above qualification it is suggested that a possible
progression might be: |
| Grade 1
- Bronze |
The basis of the Christian Faith: from the Old to the New - 10
commandments and Jesus' commandments |
| Grade 2 - Silver |
Jesus' teachings: the parables, earthly stories with a heavenly meaning. |
| Grade 3 - Gold
Faith in action - Paul's letters. |
| The above is just an outline but it is one that can be developed to
meet local situations. Material in the form of a Resource Pack will be
produced (1994) illustrating the above with additional packs following,
These packs will also include ideas for presentation and assessment since
it is especially important other project based methods are considered as
well as traditional tests of comprehension e.g. role play, compilation of
press reports of the day, video or radio reports and indeed participation
in appropriate projects in the local or national/international community. |
