In 1983
The aim of The Boys' Brigade is to lead Boys to true Christian Manliness and in order to achieve this, members of the Brigade must understand that elements of Christian Leadership are essential.

The Brigade Learership Award endevours to promote this in three specific areas:

1. The Christian Faith.
2. Drill.
3. Leadership

A Boy must qualify in each of these three important areas, in each year, to gain the Award.
i.e., A Credit must be gained in each subject.

The Leadership Badge and flashes are gained in the following manner:
Grade 1 - Bronze (Badge) - 3 Leadership Credits (1 Christian Faith, 1 Drill, 1 Leadership)
Grade 2 - Silver (Red Flash) - 3 Leadership Credits (1 Christian Faith, 1 Drill, 1 Leadership)
Grade 3 - Gold (Blue Flash) - 3 Leadership Credits (1 Christian Faith, 1 Drill, 1 Leadership)

The Three Ceredits gained for each Grade in this Award only are indicated thus:
Grade 1 - Bronze
Grade 2 - Silver
Grade 3 - Gold

As for other activity Awards a Boy may enter at Grade 2, provided he is 13 years of age and over.

The Brigade Leadership Badge is awarded to boys who hold:

1.	Christian Faith Grade 1 Credit
2.	Have received practical drill instruction and have participated in parade nights during the session.

The Badge with the red flash is awarded to members who hold

1.	Christian faith - Grade 2 Credit
2.	Have received practical drill instruction and participated in parade nights during the session.

The Badge with the blue flash is awarded to members who hold

1.	Christian Faith Grade 3 Credit
2.	Leadership Grade 3 Credit.
3.	Have undertaken further practical drill instruction and participated in an additional session of parade nights.
