Note that in addition to the specific Credits designed for activities detailed on the following pages, there is a general Interest Credit. There is a vast range of Interest activities many of which are suitable for inclusion within the Company Section programme. This section of the award scheme is designed to cater for individual pursuits as well as those undertaken within a group. Some Companies have access to especial expertise in the form of experienced instructors, local specialist clubs etc. who are prepared to give help and run classes for the Brigade. This general Credit allows the Company staff to recognise achievement in this cases. Training should cover six to eight periods each typically about 30 minutes long. Courses should be arranged by the Company (so that members appreciate that their participation is made possible through their Brigade membership) but does of necessity not have to be within a Company programme or on their evening. Grade 2 and Grade 3 Credits may be gained once members have participated in more advanced activity from the same classification. This requires progression in the programme so that a continued challenge is put to each boy. While members can usefully be expected to show evidence of growing knowledge and skill assessment should relate to the progress of that individual rather than to any preset standard. As a general guide the Grade 3 requirements are intended to be the same as the standard of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Bronze. Under some of the individual headings there are specific syllabi that offer examples of how subjects can be developed across the Grades. When designing your programme it is important to plan for a three year progression that recognises the developing abilities of a boy. (Regulations as at 1993)
