Awarded to boys who regularly attend a course and demonstrate a knowledge
of the safety aspects and advice given in the Highway Code on the
following: |
|
1. |
Walking along roads |
|
2. |
Travelling by
bus. |
|
3. |
Cycling |
|
4. |
Handling animals on the road |
|
5. |
Road signs and signals from drivers and cyclists |
|
6. |
Signals from policeman controlling traffic. |
| 7. |
Maintenance of cycles. |
|
And also |
| 8. |
Can instruct younger boys on the way to cross the road safely. |
|
|
|
| Grade 2. |
|
Awarded to members who regularly attend a course and demonstrate a
knowledge of the safety aspects and advice given in the Highway Code on
the following: |
|
1. |
Those items listed in Grade 1 above. |
|
2. |
Knowledge of the Highway Code sections for road users on wheels. |
|
and who can |
|
3. |
Negotiate a course through a series of four cones at 1 1/2m intervals
on a cycle. |
|
4. |
Demonstrate the full range of hand signals while retaining full control
over the cycle. |
|
|
|
| Grade 3. |
|
Awarded to members who hold the Grade 2 Credit and attend a further course
of instruction and can demonstrate a knowledge of the safety aspects and
advice given in the Highway Code as follows: |

1. |
All the Highway Code including the sections on Motorway driving. |
|
2. |
Road User services - how to contact and use. |
|
3. |
Basic knowledge of causes of accidents. |
|
4. |
Causes of skidding. |
|
5. |
Simple motor cycle or car safety check - tyre tread, steering and
brakes. |
