Grade 1.
Awarded to boys who regularly attend a course of instruction and demonstrate a knowledge of:
1. Common hazards and injuries in the home.
a) Falls, Burns and Scalds
b) Poisoning
c)  Suffocation
d) Electrical hazards - fire and shock
e) Gas hazards
f) Fire Hazards
2.  How to make emergency calls.
3. Water safety.
a) Places of danger.
b) Precautions for swimmers and non-swimmers
c)  What to do if you fall in.
d) Danger of ice
e) Self rescue if fallen through ice
Grade 2.
Awarded to members who have regularly attended a course of instruction and demonstrate a knowledge of:
1. The items in Grade 1 above.
2.  Protection of the home from fire.
3. Electricity in the home
4. Domestic crime prevention.
Accident prevention in the home.
Rescue of person in water.
Rescue of person fallen through ice.
Rescue by non-swimmer of someone fallen in water.
Grade 3.
Awarded to members who hold Grade 2. and who subsequently attend a further course of instruction and can demonstrate a knowledge of:
1. Safe DIY.
2.  Correct use of tools.
3. Safe use of bleach, disinfectant and caustic soda.
4. Safety in the garden, Garden chemicals.
5. Theory of combustion.
6. Types of fire extinguishers
7. Rescue from fire
8.  Fire regulations for offices, shops and halls etc.
