Hostelling

(Grade 3 only)

Grade 3 
Awarded to members of 14 years and above who attend a course of instruction and undertake the planning and completion of the following:
1. A journey in a group of at least three as follows:
either
at least 30 miles to be covered on foot in no more than three days. 
or
a journey of at least 150 kilometres on pedal cycle to be completed in no more than three days.
2. Participants must plan their own routes and make the necessary hostel bookings in advance.
3. Participants must spend each night in a different hostel on their route and obtain the warden's signature and hostel stamp.
4. A brief log of each day's journey must be completed to the satisfaction of the course instructor.
N.B. Whether participants are at the time full or temporary members of the Youth Hostels Association, they must recognise that they are bound by the rules of that Association while staying at hostels.
