| Communications is included in Adventure Activities because of the
nature of modern communication and its application in areas of open
country, at camp or on expeditions. Whilst much of the training will be
undertaken at Company HO level, the value of the training would be seen to
advantage in practical application. |

Awarded to Boys who have attended regularly a course of instruction and
who show that they have gained knowledge in the following: |

The development and growth of techniques of communicating information
through the centuries to the present day. |

2. |
The principles of operation, the advantages and disadvantages of the
modern means of communication. |
|
3. |
Flags of the International Code: Recognition of at least five flags. |
|
4. |
Phonetic Alphabet: Correct use of the pronunciation of letters. |

| Grade 2 |
|
Awarded to Boys who have attended a course of instruction and who show
that they have gained knowledge in the following: |
| 1. |
Morse Code: Recognition of the letters of the alphabet. |

(a) Radio

|
(b) Television
or |
|
|
(c) Telephone
or |
|
|
(d) Recording Systems
or |
|
|
(e) Films |
|

| Grade 3 |
|
Awarded to Boys who hold Grade 2 gained in a previous session, and who
have attended regularly a further course of instruction and who show that
they have gained more advanced knowledge and practical use of the subject
studied at Grade A combination of subjects at Grade 3 is permissible. |
