Camping

Grade 1
Awarded to boys who have attended camp under canvas of at least seven days or three weekends with good conduct and who have attended regularly a course of instruction and quality as follows:
1.  By practical or oral tests show an adequate knowledge of:
a) The various types of tent (other than lightweight tents) CAMPING their particular uses, advantages and disadvantages.
b)  Ancillary equipment such as groundsheets, bedding and fly sheets.
c)  Tent craft, i.e. cleanliness and safety of tents and equipment.
d) The Country Code.
e)  Personal health and hygiene.
2.  Practical
With the assistance of three other boys who do not hold any camping award, supervise the pitching, striking and packing of a tent competently and correctly within a reasonable time, the tent to be one capable of providing sleeping accommodation for at least eight boys.
Grade 2
Awarded to members who have attended a BB camp under canvas of at least seven days, or three weekends with good conduct and who have attended regularly a course of instruction and who qualify as follows: 
1. By practical, oral or written test show an adequate knowledge of:
a) All Grade 1 material (see above).
b) Living under canvas.
c) Planning a camp activity programme.
d)  The essentials of a good camp site and camp layout.
e)  Simple First Aid.
2.  Practical.
Plan a camp layout taking into consideration all aspects and requirements of a seven day camp.
Grade 3
Awarded to members who hold Grade 2 gained in a previous session and who have attended a further BB camp or camps under canvas of at least seven days, or three weekends, with good conduct and who have attended regularly a course of instruction and who qualify as follows:
1)  By practical, oral or written test demonstrate a knowledge of:
a) The type of food required at camp, and be able to devise a simple balanced menu for a period of at least three days.
b) The necessary arrangements for sanitation, hygiene and safety, i.e. latrines, rubbish disposal, food storage, water supply, washing facilities, fire precautions etc.
c) The precautions and actions to take in a standing camp when high winds and prolonged heavy rain occur.
2. Practical.
Take a shared responsibility for running a camp programme over a period of at least four hours.
