Proficiency Badges – Series 3 (1983 onwards)

The Centenary year, 1983, saw a major revision of the awards system. Five new badges replaced the twenty four awards, and 46 metallic foil stickers (Credits) accompanied them.  When a boy gained two credits in a category, he gained the badge. A further two credits and he received a red plastic surround and with one further credit he gained a blue surround.

 

                          Target 1                               

 

Awarded for not less than eight weeks continuous service.  Topics covered: Basic Boys’ Brigade Knowledge, Simple Drill, Knots, Use of a Compass, Physical Activities, First Aid, Safety and Christian Faith. 

Target 2

 

Awarded for a further minimum of four months service. Topics covered include: Boys’ Brigade Knowledge, Drill, An introduction to the Award Scheme, A programme of Physical Activities, Adventure Activities, Interest Activities and Christian Faith.

The following Badges are gained after a required number of credits have been earned. There are also red and blue flashes (which fit around the Badges) to show Grades 2 and 3 of this Award system.

Credits include: Adventure, Camping, Climbing, Communications (moved to Interest Badge in 1993), Discovery (Replaced Exploration in 1993), Expedition, Exploration (Replaced by Discovery in 1993), Hostelling (Grade 3 only), Map Making & Surveying (Introduced July 1996), Mountain Biking (Introduced July 1996), Mountaineering, Orienteering, Ornithology (Moved to Interest Badge in 1993), Pioneering, Seamanship, Sub Aqua (Discontinued in 1993) and Wayfaring.

Leadership (White enamel) - Click on Badge to see all the Credits and Regualtions

 

Credits include: Christian Faith, Drill (Moved to Interest Badge in 1993) and Leadership (Stages 1 & 2 discontinued in 1993).

Community (Green enamel) - Click on Badge to see all the Credits and Regualtions

 

Credits include: Community, Citizenship, Civics (Discontinued in 1993), Conservation, Crime Prevention, Environment, Fire Prevention, First Aid, Health & Fitness, International, Lifesaving, Personal & Home Safety (Replaced "Safety" in 1993), Road Safety (Replaced "Safety" in 1993) and Safety (Replaced in 1993 by two individual Safety Credits).

 

Interests (Yellow enamel) - Click on Badge to see all the Credits and Regualtions

 

Credits include: Interests, Arts, Bible Knowledge, Communications (Moved from the Adventure Badge in 1993), Computing, Crafts, Drill (Removed from the Leadership Badge in 1993), Hobbies, Music, Ornithology (Removed from the Adventure Badge in 1993) and Wildlife.

 

Physical (Red enamel) - Click on Badge to see all the Credits and Regualtions

Credits include: Physical, Athletics, Canoeing, Diving, Gymnastics, Physical Recreation, Sailing, Sportsman and Swimming.
