1st Stage: Be able to use a map and compass, know the Country Code, understand the structure of a typical plant and animal, know your local area, make and arrange a small collection of specimens.

2nd Stage: Make visits to a local area, draw a map of the area and keep a log of Flora and Fauna, know the outdoor studies code, understand life cycles and show an ability at nature detection.

3rd Stage: Understand how habitats differ, keep a scrapbook detailing the thread of wild life, lead a ramble and undertake a personal study or project.
