All examinations will be based
on "First Aid," the joint manual of the St. John Ambulance
Association, the St. Andrew's Ambulance Association and the British Red
Cross Society, obtainable from Brigade Headquarters, and conducted by
qualified medical men or other competent examiners, other than the
Lecturer.
Where the examination is
the same for each year, a progressive passmark should be set, e.g. 50%,
60%, 70%, etc. Where the standard and scope of the examination is raised
for each year a lesser equivalent passmark should be set.
All examinations will be
conducted on a practical and written and / or oral basis.
Classes conducted by First
Aid Societies by arrangement with Companies or Battalions are recognised
for the undermentioned awards.
First Aid Certificate
Awarded to Boys of 12 B.B. age or more who have attended regularly a B.B.
Course of Instruction of at least 12 Classes and who pass an examination,
attaining the required standard in each part.

First
Aid First Year Certificate 1962 |
First Aid Badge
Awarded to Boys of 13 B.B. age or more who hold the First Aid Certificate
gained in a previous Session, have subsequently attended regularly a B.B.
Course of Instruction of at least 12 Classes, and who pass an examination,
attaining the required standard in each part.
The Duke of Edinburgh's
Award. The First Aid Badge qualifies a Boy in the Rescue and Public
Service Section at Bronze stage.
First Advanced
Certificate.
Awarded to Boys of 14 B.B. age or more who hold the First Aid Badge gained
in a previous Session, have subsequently attended regularly a B.B. Course
of Instruction of at least 12 Classes and who pass an examination,
attaining the required standard in each part.
The Duke of Edinburgh's
Award. The First Advanced Certificate qualifies a Boy in the Rescue and
Public Service Section at Silver stage.
Second Advanced
Certificate.
Awarded to Boys of 15 B.B. age or more who hold the First Advanced
Certificate gained in a previous Session, have subsequently attended
regularly a B.B. Course of Instruction of at least 12 Classes and who pass
an examination, attaining the required standard in each part.
Third Advanced
Certificate.
Awarded to Boys of 16 B.B. age or more who hold the Second Advanced
Certificate gained in a previous Session, have subsequently attended
regularly a B.B. Course of Instruction of at least 12 Classes and who pass
an examination, attaining the required standard in each part.
The Duke of Edinburgh's
Award. For the Gold stage the qualifications are as laid down in the
Leaders' Handbook.
