Bugler's

Awarded to Boys of 14 B.B. Age or more who have attended regularly B.B. band practice with good conduct for two sessions, who pass a test and who, in the opinion of their Captain, have attained a satisfactory standard or proficiency on their instrument. The minimum number of practices must be 25 per session. In the case of bands not having 25 practices in one session, regular attendance covering at least 50 practices in three Sessions may be taken as the equivalent. It is quite permissible for a Boy to gain more than one of these Badges, but to be eligible for a second badge he must qualify on the second instrument for two further Sessions. Boys must also fulfil the further conditions as stated for the respective instrument.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Membership of a Band for one Session qualifies a Boy in the Pursuits Section at Bronze stage, and award of the Badge qualifies a Boy at Silver stage. For the Gold Award a Boy must continue as a proficient member of the band for a further Session.

Bugler's Badge
Awarded to Buglers or Trumpeters who have fulfilled the qualifications above, and who are able to sound the following calls correctly as laid down in "The Boys' Brigade Bugle Band Handbook":
(a)  Last Post or Retreat
(b) Reveille (Rouse), Fall-In, First Dinner Call, Warning for Parade and Orderly Sergeants
(c)  Two marches from the Bugle Band Handbook.

First Advanced Certificate
Awarded to Boys, of 15 B.B. age or more who hold the Bugler's gained in a previous Session, have attended regularly B.B. Band practice for another Session and who pass the following tests.

(a)  Long Reveille, Last Post and Retreat.
(b) Five additional calls from Bugle Band Handbook other thin those required for the Badge test.
(c) Read and play any 3 selected exercises on p. 16-25 of Bugle Band Handbook.
(d) Understand the use of musical terms on p. 18 of Bugle Band Handbook.

Second Advanced Certificate
Awarded to Boys of 16 B.B. age or more, who hold the Bugler's First Advanced Certificate gained in a previous Session, have attended regularly B.B. Band practice for another Session and who pass the following tests.

(a)  Read and play any piece of Bugle music at sight in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4 and 6/8 times; one phrase in each time.
(b) Maintenance of Bugles, i.e., tuning, etc.
